Role of ASCN UK Committee

Chairperson

The Honorary Chair is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the Association and ensuring overall aims and objectives are within the remit of the stated intentions registered with the Charities Commission and in keeping with members’ needs and wishes. May have a specific lead role in certain projects and an awareness of all projects, guidelines and developments within the Association. Ultimately accountable for the Association, with the committee, to ensure it is well led and fulfilling the responsibilities expected of it clinically, professionally and politically.

Vice Chairperson

The Vice Chairperson of ASCN UK deputises for the Chair, supports the organisation’s growth and conference planning, and promotes stoma care research and clinical advocacy while ensuring compliance with the constitution.

The Role of the Vice Chairperson


Education Officer

Responsible for developing, delivering and evaluating clinically focused educational programmes that support evidence-based practice in stoma care, enhancing the knowledge, skills and confidence of healthcare professionals to improve patient outcomes.

The Role of the Honorary Education Officer


Clinical Development Officer

The Clinical Development Officer role primarily focuses on the tools and resources required by members to develop their clinical skills and their personal professional development. Integral to the role is a willingness to contribute to ongoing projects relevant to all aspects of the Association and lead on relevant aspects of resource development.


Secretary

The Honorary Secretary is responsible for coordinating and recording ASCN UK activities, including managing meeting minutes, maintaining records, supporting communication across the organisation, and ensuring membership information is accurate and up to date. The role also contributes to key events, reporting, and governance processes, while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and timely communication throughout.

The Role of the Honorary Secretary


Treasurer 

The Honorary Treasurer has overarching responsibility for ASCN UK’s finances, expenditure, and financial position, working with the secretariat to maintain accurate records, accounts, and the annual audit in compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements. The role ensures the appropriate use of the association’s funds.

Governance and Communications Officer

The Governance Officer is responsible for providing oversight, ensuring compliance, and promoting adherence to governance standards so that ASCN UK operates responsibly and in line with internal and external requirements.
